A delicious grain-free meaty stew packed with healthy protein from beef, and with optional added spirulina and chia seeds for long-term health and wellness.
This recipe is a simplified version of our ready made Hearty Beef & Sweet Potato Stew recipe, and the rich meaty flavour makes it super-palatable and an almost guaranteed hit with even the fussiest of dog.
Notes from VetChef Head Vet Dr Joe Inglis:
This recipe is well balanced, with 13% protein and 10% fat, and an energy density of 150kcal per kg, making it relatively rich, and therefore better suited to energetic dogs than sedentary individuals or those aiming to loose weight.
Suitable for:
All adult dogs.

Ingredients
-
365g Beef mince (15% fat)
-
145g Sweet potato
-
50g Beef kidney
-
50g Beef liver
-
40g Green beans
-
10g VetChef Everyday Adult Supplement
-
7g Hempseed Oil
-
1g Chia Seeds (optional)
-
1g Spirulina powder (optional)
Ready made version
Directions
Finely dice the liver and kidney, add to a frying pan with the beef mince and cook gently until lightly browned and cooked through
Meanwhile, dice or grate the sweet potatoes (depending on your dog's preference and size), and chop up the green beans into small pieces
Steam vegetables until soft (5-7 minutes)
Mix the meat and vegetables together and allow to cool
Add in the hempseed oil (or vegetable oil), chia seeds and VetChef supplement, and mix thoroughly
Store in the fridge and use within 5 days, or freeze on the day of cooking
Recipe Note
Hempseed oil is a great ingredient as it is rich in the essential fatty acid linoleic acid which can be lacking in beef recipes - however it is possible to substitute vegetable oil or olive oil for the hempseed oil if it is not available.
