A delicious grain-free meaty stew designed to support long term health and wellbeing in older dogs. It contains slightly reduced levels of protein compared to the adult version, plus optional added spirulina and chia seeds for digestive and immune health.
This recipe is a simplified version of our ready made Hearty Beef & Sweet Potato Stew recipe, and the rich meaty flavour makes it super-palatable and an almost guaranteed hit with even the fussiest of dog.
Notes from VetChef Head Vet Dr Joe Inglis:
With a relatively low 10% protein this recipe contains 138kcal per kg, and is ideally suited to senior dogs.

Ingredients
-
300g Beef mince
-
75g Beef liver
-
175g Sweet potato
-
80g Green beans
-
50g Spinach
-
15g VetChef Everyday Adult Supplement
-
6ml Hempseed Oil
-
1g Chia seeds (optional)
-
1g Turmeric (optional)
Directions
Finely dice the liver, add to a frying pan with the mince and cook gently until lightly browned and cooked through
Meanwhile, dice or grate the sweet potato (depending on your dog's preference and size), and chop the green beans into small pieces
Steam vegetables until soft (5-7 minutes)
Mix the meat and vegetables together and allow to cool
Add in the hempseed oil (or vegetable oil), and VetChef supplement (plus chia and turmeric if using) and mix thoroughly
Store in the fridge and use within 5 days, or freeze on the day of cooking
Recipe Note
Hempseed oil is a great ingredient as it is rich in the essential fatty acid linoleic acid which can be lacking in beef recipes - however it is possible to substitute vegetable oil or olive oil for the hempseed oil if it is not available.
